Still smoking? That’s your business.
Do you need help quitting? That’s our business.
So you’re ready to quit smoking and you are intelligent enough to realize that you
will be more successful with some professional assistance. Fantastic! You’ve come
to the right place. Because you’re serious about quitting I’m sure you have already
cut back on the number of cigarettes you smoke a day. This small change has
probably already produced a noticeable difference in your self-image, energy level,
and most importantly, it has reinforced your self-confidence and desire to quit. If this
change slipped your mind, don’t give it a second thought. Not everyone remembers to
take that small first step, especially when that step is taken alone. So do it now. Right
now. Make a commitment to your physical and mental well being this instant. Reduce the
number of cigarettes you smoke today by 10%. Just that fast and easy you are well on
your way to becoming smoke free. Now give yourself that psychological edge. Give us a
call and set up an appointment.
If for some reason you still haven’t decided to call by next week, that’s just fine. I can wait
until you’re 100% ready. Or you can call despite your ambivalence and perhaps I can help
you work through this perceived lack of commitment as well. In either case, remember to
reduce your cigarette intake by another 10% throughout the coming week. Cut one in half
if need be to get you there (just smoke the half with the filter).
So just what is the point here? While you are preparing yourself for a 100% dedication to
becoming a non-smoker, you are giving yourself something very important. Proof. With
just a few small commitments you are proving to yourself that you CAN change a habit.
You are proving to yourself that you are NOT physiologically addicted to nicotine (because
you’re not, that’s a lie.). But again, most importantly, you are proving to yourself that
YOU HAVE THE DESIRE AND THE DEDICATION TO BECOME A NON-SMOKER.
If you still haven’t called by the following week, guess what? Reduce your smoke intake
by yet another 10%. You keep this up long enough and you won’t need to call at all (just
remember to send the check). But you need to be asking yourself why… you haven’t called
yet. That is an important question. There is a reason why after two or three weeks you are
still not ready to commit to your goal. What is it?
It is what we call a secondary gain. You are clinging to your habit because you think it is giving
you something positive. It’s keeping your weight down. It’s relaxing you. It lets you enjoy a
meal more. Most people refer to secondary gains as excuses. I think I agree. You’re not sure?
How much did you weigh when you began smoking? How much do you weigh now?
Nicotine, in the small doses contained in a cigarette, is a stimulant and aids the flow
of adrenaline. It increases your heart rate and your blood pressure.
Cigarette smoke has dulled both your sense of smell and taste. You have completely
forgotten what enjoying a meal even means.
I know secondary gains are a powerful motivator. In many cases they have become
your habit. The good news is that they are a belief you have constructed in your mind,
precisely our focus in hypnosis. We will address these obstacles and ensure you
overcome them.
Now somewhere along this process of cutting back on your smoking you may stumble,
some of you, perhaps, in the first week or first few days. That’s all right. You knew
doing it yourself was not the answer to begin with. What is important now is that you
stumble with acceptance and do not surrender to the setback. Only when you give up
does a setback become a failure.
Others among you may become frustrated and decide to give up as well. That doesn’t
matter either. Relapse is a logical and reasonable stage of change. Once you come to
that realization it is easy to continue forward to your goal once again. When you relapse
you are one step closer to enacting change, permanent change, in your life.
Take as much time as you need, analyze your commitment level and take that first
step again. Your goal is to be a non-smoker. This goal is realistic and attainable. Now, are
you ready now to really commit yourself to this goal and put down the cigarettes for good?
ARE YOU READY TO BECOME A NON-SMOKER?
If your answer was a resounding “YES!” then pick up the phone and give me a call. We will
set up an appointment for your program.
And don’t forget that your results are guaranteed. We are
committed to helping you become smoke free. All that is required to be successful, is
your commitment too.
